A great party shouldn’t be stressful to plan. Follow these tips to throw a bash to be remembered.

  1. Budget

How much you spend is up to you, make sure you have a set budget in mind before you start planning. Keep in mind the number of kids you are inviting, the type of food you want to serve and the venue, if you have to pay for one or not.

  2. Pick a Theme

The theme you pick can be based on the season, depending on your child’s birthday month, or your child’s age. Some sample themes are circus, nautical, ice cream, pajama, unicorn, pirates, sports, cowboy, super hero and mystical mermaid. Decorate based on your theme.

  3. Decide on the Venue

You may choose to have the party at home, outside at a park, or at a party house. Various places also have parties for kids, such as an arcade, skating rink, trampoline park or adventure parks.

Have a rain plan for an outdoor party.

  4. Send out Invitations

Paper or Electronic? Either one is fine. Electronic invitations are convenient and you are able to keep a copy of a paper invite. Be sure to add RSVP date to help with planning.

When picking a time for your party, consider nap time if you child still takes one.

  5. Plan your Menu

Serve kid friendly food and ask parents ahead of time if their kids have any food allergies or intolerance. Don’t forget to add the parents, especially if they are staying for the party. The time of your party determines the type of food you may serve. Here is a good guide:

Lunch or Brunch if between 10 AM - 1 PM

Dinner if between 4 PM - 6 PM

Snacks if between 2 PM - 5 PM

  6. Games

Games or other activities are very important in keeping kids busy. Examples are arts and crafts, Simon says, freeze tag, musical chars, charades and hot potato.

  7. Don’t forget the Goody Bag

They can be elaborate or simple, edible or crafty, reflect the theme of the party, be educational or just be fun treats.

  8. Thank You

Remember to keep a log of birthday gifts, so you can send a thank you note/card. You can also include a thank you note with the goody bag so you don’t have to send one out later.
